What does happen if I don't write the AWA in real exam?

by bettym Wed Dec 22, 2010 7:38 pm

I will apply to PhD programs in Finance and I will take GMAT on January 6th. I already got GMAT scores and all have the same AWA score, 4/6. Should I still do the AWA part on the actual exam? Do you think AWA is seriously considered for PhD applications?

Thanks,

Betul.

I can't answer whether the schools seriously consider the essays, but I do know that you should do them anyway. GMAC reserves the right to cancel anyone's score due to what they call "unusual or suspicious circumstances" and one of those potential circumstances is skipping the essays. They don't say that they absolutely will cancel your score if you skip the essays, but they "reserve the right" to do so if they want. So do the essays. :)

Some schools may also discount your multiple-choice score if you skip the essays. After all, it's a definite advantage to chop out the first hour of the test and go straight to the quant section!
