Use of "this" as a pronoun

by benkriger Thu Sep 20, 2012 3:07 pm

"However, the GMAT doesn't permit the use of "this" as a pronoun (without a noun following)" -MGMAT

-Can someone explain this to me?

Is this true - if whenever we say "this" on gmat as a pronoun, we need to follow with a noun... What if the noun is in the sentence before as well.

The statement means that you can't use 'this' standalone.
for ex.
The boy was doing exercise . This relaxed him. -->> wrong use of this.>
Correct sentence is: this exercise relaxed him. --here this is following a now.
