USAGE of 'WHAT'

by FA Tue Feb 24, 2015 8:07 am

Hello GMAT Staff,

Stacey shared some information about "USAGE of WHAT" in the following discussion on the forum, but I think the examples and the OG question were deleted because of copyright infringements:

what-usage-in-between-sentence-t30112.html

Can you use an example from GMATPrep software or MGMAT material to explain the "USAGE OF WHAT" in more detail. For example, in OG-15#12 the usage of 'what' can be seen in non underlined portion of the sentence. I am trying to figure out the concept and strategy behind this specific type of usage of 'what'. I will explain this with a similar sentence:

The scientists can calculate what would otherwise be impossible to do......

Could you please give somes background and rules on usage and role of 'WHAT' in such cases.

Kind Regards,
FA

I'm not entirely sure this topic is relevant, and if it is, it's not clear what you're wanting from us. Can you identify any questions that illustrate what your concern is, even if it's just OG problem numbers?
