Took the GMAT.

by Dav.lee777 Mon Aug 01, 2011 8:52 pm

I've been scoring in the low 500's on the MGMAT practice exams. I took the GMAT today and got a 620. I must have gotten really lucky. Now I'm thinking I can improve more. I just had a few questions.

1st: Is this jump in score very rare? Have you heard of other students doing this? I thought MGMAT quant was much harder than the real thing.

2nd: If I took a live class through MGMAT would it help me raise to 670+?

Hi dav.lee,
Congratulations! Sounds like you really put it all together on the real GMAT.

1) This is a little unusual, but it can happen. Many students report that our tests are harder than the real GMAT (particularly in math), so that could explain some of the discrepancy. My guess is that you had just reached the point at which everything clicked for you, and your studying paid off.

2) A course may very well help you make this jump. A 620 to a 670 is certainly a reasonable score improvement. You've probably already corrected the easy things (the "low hanging fruit") so a course may help you zero in on some of the more subtle corrections you need to make to hit this higher score.

Again, congratulations!
