Third GMAT attempt - Advice on using MGMAT again

by Matt Wed Jul 16, 2008 12:22 pm

I took the 9 week MGMAT course (in-class) a year ago, took my first GMAT in October and second in December. After little luck getting into schools, I plan to try the GMAT a third time in September.

MGMAT has granted me online access again, so I've started chipping away at the syllabus. I wonder if you have any specific suggestions for re-doing the class (on my own this time, can't do the live class). I'd rather go through the material quicker than is standard and perhaps not sit through all of the online course recordings.

Thanks for your ideas.

Take a practice test to see where your skills are at right now (you'll have remembered some things and forgotten others - no way to tell which is which). Set up a study plan from there based on your strengths and weaknesses (don't forget to watch out for timing as well as accuracy!). Watch those parts of the classes and follow the syllabus for those areas on which you want to work.

Don't neglect your strengths, though! I'd follow the syllabus generally, but just go more quickly through things that are your strengths (maybe only do the medium-plus questions, and don't do as many - also, you don't need to re-watch those parts of the classes if you feel fine in those areas).

I'm sorry that you didn't have much luck with the schools. You may also want to try contacting them to see if they'll give you any feedback as to why you weren't selected. Since they're not super-busy with applications right now, some of them might be willing to give you some information.
