the use of though

by manhhiep2509 Sun Jan 19, 2014 9:24 am

Hello.
Below is my example:

"I have bought a new computer, which is not high-speed enough to play today computer games, though which otherwise has enough space in hard disk drives to contain all my film collections."

Please explain why "though" is incorrect?
Can"though" not followed by 'which/that" clause?

Thank you.

I will not say though is incorrect, if you change 'which' following though to 'it'.

"I have bought a new computer, which is not fast enough to play modern computer games, though it otherwise has enough space in hard disk drives to contain all my film collections."

Can"though" not followed by 'which/that" clause?

In this case , which otherwise has enough space in hard disk drives to contain all my film collections is not working as clause, it is working as a phrase. A modifying phrase in particular.

Now though is working as a conjunction here, hence it needs to be followed by a clause not a phrase.

Experts please correct me if I am wrong.

Nope. If you're going to do this, you need to follow "though" with a complete sentence.
The previous poster's example (with "it") does a good job of this.
