The manhattan free GMAT test- representative?

by guywt82 Sun Aug 30, 2009 3:52 pm

Hi,
I 2 weeks until my GMAT exam and i took today the free manhattan online test. I score 690 (Q49, V35). Few questions:
1)Both of the sections were much harder than in any other simulation test i took- the quantitative particulary. I got 18(!!!) answers wrong in the verbal section and 14 answers wring in the quantitative section, and still scored a decent score considering that fact. This is akward since in most simulation i got no more than 10 answers wrong in Q and about 13-14 answers wrond in V. Does any one have an idea?
2) I heard that math is much harder in the manhattan tests than is in the official test, is it true and if so- is it true for the varbal section as well?

ps- is the free test generally similar to the 6 online test (scoring, difficulty wise)?

Appreciate your assitance,
Guy

The practice test that is most similar to the real thing is GMATPrep. Our test is also built on the same algorithm used by the real test. I don't know what other tests you've been using, so I can't comment on the accuracy, but ours does use the same algorithmic theory.

At the same time, I have had lots of students tell me they think our quant is harder. The primary reason (in my opinion) is the lack of experimental questions. On the real test, about 10 of the 37 questions are experimental. Experimentals are not assigned based on difficulty level - they're random - so the higher you score, the more likely it is that the experimentals you are offered are "easier" than your scoring level. That gives you some mental breaks on the real test, breaks that you don't get on our test. :)

I have had some students tell me they think our verbal is harder too, but I have had just as many students tell me that our verbal is easier! Most of the time, students tell me they think our verbal is pretty close to the real thing.

Dear Stacey,

I just took the free MGAMT CAT test. I scored a 680. Below is the breakup of the sections.

Quant: 47, 81% - 15 Incorrect
Verbal: 37. 81% - 19 Incorrect
FINAL SCORE: 680, 90%

In Math and Verbal, just once i got a string of 4 questions wrong.

Do be honest, I have had a tough time with the GMAT in the past. I really would like to know what does a score of 680 on the MGMAT really means?

I know it is difficult for you to answer this question, but i would really like to know that if i had performed similarly on the actual GMAT with a slight difference here and there, How much do you think i would score?

If you atleast provide a range, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

THanks,

You posted this same question in another thread and I answered there. In general, please post only once - don't post the same post in multiple threads. Thanks!
