The Glass House Mountains in Queensland, Australia,

by documents.chaudhuri Sun Mar 04, 2012 4:47 pm

Hi,

I have loads of doubt with the -ing form. When I was solving the questions, i figured that -ing in GMAt can be used for modifiers, parallelism and cause and effect rule.

- I know option D is correct and have marked it too. But option C begins with "naming" (naming them supposedly since their) .. i know since cannot be used because we require causation. But howcome naming refers to Glass House Mountains and it is given in the explanation that James Cook is not a noun. - how is tht possible? ..why is james cook not a noun?

The question is from Official Guide 2012.
I understand that since is incorrect usage here because it refers back to time. Can you please explain why option B is incorrect? I think it might be lack of conjunction between reason for naming and rest of sentence ("and their").Besides, by whom they were named is wordy and passive.
