"the fact"

by adam.pines Sat Oct 03, 2009 12:27 pm

Dear Manhattan luminaries,

I was told by a local teacher of mine that "despite the fact" and "because of the fact" are incorrect. However, upon using your question bank - i find that "Despite the fact" is a correct form!!!!

please explain

"luminaries". heh.

"because of the fact that (CLAUSE)" should always be wrong, since you could just write "because (CLAUSE)" instead.

i wouldn't be so quick to dismiss "despite the fact", though, since there is no such easy and automatic rephrase.
