Strategy for solving 600-800 Problems

by deepeshbhatia Tue Aug 20, 2013 3:57 pm

Hi Stacey,

I am through the online course and currently practicing mixed sets of problems in the 600-800 range from OG 13. These include PS and DS. My experience with the PS questions is fair except the Devlish types. The DS word problems are an area of concern, the accuracy level on solving these is something I want to improve. My other observation is timing, for the easy and medium problems I am within the 2:00 min range but for the mentioned level am landing at the 3:00 mark. I have finished 2 CAT exams and looking forward to CAT 3+ more subject to really strengthening the 600-800 level problems from OG.

Appreciate your help.

Did you do your Post-Course Assessment? This is a free 30-minute session to discuss your test results and come up with a post-course study plan. You do this in the 30 days after your course ends; you can sign up in the Office Hours section of the website.

Oh, wait I just saw that you've done 2 practice tests. Okay, you need to do the 3rd one in order to take advantage of that. How long has it been since you took your 2nd test? If it has been more than a few weeks, then it may be time to take the next test.

You also mention timing. Read this:
https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/inde ... lly-tests/

Tell me what you think about what you learn there - and where you think that you need to make some changes in your mindset and your approach based upon that material.

And then these two:

http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... nt-part-1/

Ditto - tell me what you learned and how you need to change what you've been doing.

So here's your overall plan (for now). Use the below to analyze your most recent MGMAT CAT(s):
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ice-tests/

Then come back here and tell us the results of your analysis and what you think you should do based on that analysis. We'll tell you whether we agree and advise you further. (Note: do share an analysis with us, not just the raw data. Part of getting better is developing your ability to analyze your results - figure out what they mean and what you think you should do about them!)

If timing is an issue, spend about 10-15 days working on the stuff that the time management articles (above) talk about. Then take your 3rd CAT and sign up for your post-course assessment. (Your timing issues won't be totally fixed by then, but you'll hopefully have made some progress.)
