In the SC book:
wrong: she gave money so the school could offer scholorships.
right: Plants grow because the sun shines.
S V so S V(=result)
this form is incorrect?
Can someone confirm? I am confused
thanks!

but how about the use of a single so for result?
is this sentence correct? ->The shops were closed so I didn't get any milk.
do we need a comma before "closed"?

I think you are right, yes, we need a COMMA after SO in this sentence to make it right. We are connecting 2 independent clauses here with only SO. This construction is not right on GMAT.
Remember COMMA + FANBOYS construction to connect 2 independent clauses.

i think i understand now..
i confuse "so" with "because".
"because" is not FANBOYS, coordinating conjunction.
subordinators can connect sentences without comma.
Thanks!!
