Should i retake...got 710 in first attempt...

by danish.hasan.srcc Mon Apr 02, 2012 6:17 pm

The median gmat score of the institution I am applying is 706 (Indian School of Business). I think if I retake with directed effort I can reach 730-40 mark. Should I try doing that or it is useless?

I would talk to an admissions consultant who is familiar with this school in order to see where they think your time would be best spent. It's possible that they'll say - your other numbers are high enough that you'd be better off spending more time on your essays and more time trying to get a promotion or increased responsibility at work. Or it's possible that they'll say - there's a weakness in your application somewhere and you might be able to offset that by getting another 20 or 30 points on the GMAT.

If you do want to retake, it's certainly possible to improve, but the higher you go above 700, the harder it gets - so it won't just be a short, simple thing to go for 730 - 740. You have to make sure that this effort is really worth your time. :)

Okay, go talk to some admissions consultants and, if you do decide to retake, come back here and let us know and we'll help you figure out what to do.
