Should I reinstate a 570? Which applic. deadline?

by NejcR579 Tue Aug 12, 2014 3:23 am

Dear Manhattan GMAT instructors,
first, I would like to thank everybody on this forum for the support, motivation, help, etc.

I took the GMAT on 4th of August and scored a 570 (Q42, V26). I decided to cancel my score as my target score is 600+.
600 is a score required for studying Master in Marketing at European universities I want to apply to.
With other words, both of the universities state that students whose score is below 600 are very unlikely to be further considered for admission to the program. Note, that these two universities are situated in Austria and Netherlands.

One has three deadlines: 8th of October, 8th of January and mid of March. The others deadline is 1st of May.
From what I've heard is that the earlier you apply, the more chances you have to get in, so I do not know what to do.

I am currently doing an internship in Shanghai and I will not be able to take the GMAT before the 8th of October, but I will definitively take it again!

What are your suggestions? Shall I reinstate my score and try to apply at least for the first one with a score of 570 or should I take the GMAT again somewhen by the end of November and therefore apply somewhen in December?
In addition, shall I reinstate my score in any way, being prepared for the worst case scenario when I am taking the GMAT again?

Thank you very much!

Best regards,

An admissions consultant would be in a better position to advise you about whether it's worth it to apply earlier or whether you should wait and apply with a (hopefully!) higher score.

You have 60 days to reinstate the score, and you can't re-take until Oct 8th at the earliest, so that means you probably have to decide before you can re-take and see what your new score is. (I don't know your first test date, but unless you took it *very* recently...)

Have you asked the schools whether they will consider a second test taken after you submit your application? If so, you may be able to submit the app (using the 570 score) earlier and then submit a new score on / after Oct 8th.

But, really, talk to an admissions consultant - my expertise is the test itself, not the admissions process. We have a folder called "Ask an Admissions Consultant" and you can also check the websites of admissions consulting firms. MBA Mission is my favorite; there's also Clear Admit, Admit Advantage, and many others.

Then, come back and talk to me about how to lift your score. :)

First, read these two articles:
https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/inde ... lly-tests/
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... -the-gmat/

Then, use the below to analyze your most recent MGMAT CAT (this should take you a minimum of 1 hour):
http://tinyurl.com/analyzeyourcats

Figure out your strengths and weaknesses as well as what you think you should do based on that analysis. Then come back here and tell us; we'll tell you whether we agree and advise you further. (Note: do share an analysis with us, not just the raw data. Part of getting better is developing your ability to analyze your results - figure out what they mean and what you think you should do about them!)
