Should I consider my Score worth giving a shot?

by PC Mon Nov 03, 2008 1:15 pm

Hi Stancey,
I gave my GMAT today. It was my first attempt.

My score is 660. VA(31), QA(49). Though I was expecting 680-690.
But considering all the points made by you in previous responses, 50 is the deviation one can expect.
Anyways, I am planning to enrol into MBA by the Fall of next year. And if I give it a second attempt, I won't be able to make it for 2nd Deadline of Applications.
My weak point will be my one year experience which will noy be an average work-ex.
However I can say that I have substantial work-ex in one year in an IT industry.
My Academic records are pretty ok as I scored 83% marks in my Engineering and got a Bronze medal.

Should I think to apply in any of the following universities or should I wait tiil next year?
1) Darden Business School, University of Virginia
2) Texas A& M University
3) GSB, Chicago
4) UCLA Anderson Business College
5) Michigan State University
6) Fisher Business School, Montreal
7) Ohio State University

Stancey, will look forward to your guidance.

Thanks.
Abdulla

Please DO NOT answer Abdulla's question. Abdulla, for future reference, it is illegal for people to discuss what they saw on the test. When you go in to take the test, you actually sign a legal document indicating that you will not discuss any detail from the test.

PC, the standard deviation on the MGMAT test is 50 points. The standard deviation on the official test is 30 points. Both are within the ranges you're talking about.

Re: the business schools, post your question in the "Ask An Admissions Consultant" thread. They know all about this stuff and would be happy to give you advice. (I'm sorry that I can't be more helpful on this question, but my specialty is the GMAT. I know some stuff about admissions, but it's better for you if you ask the admissions experts about admissions stuff!)

Abdulla - no problem. I'm glad you know now. You don't want to get in trouble with the test-makers. They can actually cancel scores and ban people from taking the test for discussing specific test questions, so you really don't want to do that!
