Sentence Correction | Verb Tense, Mood, and Strategy

by dhruvmark Sun Oct 31, 2010 9:06 am

Please consider the following 2 sentences:

1. If Sophie EATS pizza tomorrow, then she WILL BECOME ill.
2. If Sophie ATE pizza tomorrow, then she would become ill

My questions are:

a. How is 1 in present? even though EATS (present tense) is used, we're talking about tomorrow.

b. How are 1 and 2 different? Why does 1 have 'no uncertainty' and 2 'Unlikely case'?

Thanks.

Please read (and follow!) the forum guidelines before posting.

On these forums, we answer problems only from MGMAT or GMATPrep and those problems should be posted in the relevant folder. This folder is only for general strategy questions, not content or specific problems. If you are a course student, please ask about other problems or issues before or after class or during office hours.

If you are not in one of our classes, and the problem is not from MGMAT or GMATPrep, then you can ask about it on another forum (I recommend Beat the GMAT).
