Sentence correction

by Dav.lee777 Sat Jun 25, 2011 2:42 pm

How do I attack sentence corrections? It's pretty brutal. I know the basic strategy with splits, but where do I go from there?

Splits definitely help when you're trying to eliminate answers but the way I've approached them has always been to first identify the subject of the sentence. By doing this I can effectively see the modifiers, verb tense, and meaning much easier and therefore usually can rule down answers much faster then doing splits and resplits. Often I have a general idea of what the sentence should be prior to even reviewing the answer choices which makes it much easier. My suggestion to you would be to first identify the subject of any sentence and what the meaning of the sentence is, then your splits will make a lot more sense and the answer should just "come to you".

Good question - and thanks for weighing in terence! I love it when I'm not the only one answering questions here. :)

dav, I have an article for you:

http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... n-problem/

Try that out and then come back here with questions / problems. Note that this is the basic process for most SCs. Some sentences / problems are a lot more complex and require more strategies. We can talk about those when you get to that point.
