I'd go with option D)

I think Option C) would have been right if it were: "can be programmed to think as people do". (Advice required here by Staff members!)

'Like' compares nouns, and is correctly used in option D) to compare ability of computers to think with that of people.

I'll go with C..just for the reason that as is used to compare the action which in this case is thinking.

OA plz..

I don’t like this one. Stick with OG and MGMAT questions please, otherwise you risk getting frustrated with questionable problems such as this one! I agree with Angad that C should say "do" rather than "can", but otherwise it’s the best of five poor options..

Hi Tim,

One small question what's wrong with D "could be programmed to think like people"

Could looks correct because question is referring to an assumption (can be true or cannot be true). Like is comparing two nouns "People" and "Computers"

no. this question is suspect and has big enough problems that i don't consider it worth spending time on in this forum. please restrict your study to questions that come from the GMAT or MGMAT..

Resurrecting this problem because I just was assigned it via my tutor in HW and I don't see a clear answer here. This is an official problem however from the GMAT paper test. Test 37 to be exact.

Can someone help in explaining why D is the best choice here? I chose E thinking you're comparing thinking of computers to the thinking of people. Hence, I ruled out D because you're comparing the way computers think to people themselves. What am I missing here?

I have deleted this question as it is from a banned source. Thanks for helping us track that down; I have now locked the thread.

The bigger issue is that you should NEVER study from the GMAT paper tests. They're too old to be relevant. That's like taking a world geography class with a map from the 1980s! No tutor should be assigning homework problems from such outdated sources. I'm assuming this wasn't one of our tutors, but if it was, please email me at tsanders at manhattanprep dot com and I'll discreetly work with the tutor to correct this oversight.
