Re: Mailing hard-copies of recommendation letters to schools

Hi, I was wondering how strict schools are about requiring recommendations to be uploaded via the internet? The only reason I ask is that I've submitted most of my recommendation letters to my Letter Of Reference service at my undergraduate institution and plan to mail those directly to admissions....

Re: I need some professional Admissions guidance here

Dear priluckj - Thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear about your 3 rejections; that's really discouraging after all of the work you put into your application. While we never know exactly how admissions decisions are made, and of course without seeing your full application a personalized &q...

Re: Selecting Recommenders

Dear Angeladiaz08 - Thank you for your question. It sounds like you have been through some interesting times at that company! From what you're telling us, it sounds like T would be a good choice for you. While T does not have a manager title, s/he did supervise you. AdComs care less about title than...

Re: I need some professional Admissions guidance here

Jessica, Thanks for your response! I definetely listed my extracurriculars, which I think were impressive. I think your right, If I'm going to give myself a realistic shot, I need to blow out the GMAT. While I can't change my GPA, on the bright side, I am taking a Calculus and a Statistics class, a...

Re: Profile Evaluation

Dear Mackyp7 - Thank you for your inquiry. You have some obvious strengths in your profile - particularly your involvement in varsity sport, your radio show and the kids-cooking program that you started. Many MBA candidates have trouble articulating differences and this should not be a problem for y...

Re: MS vs. MBA

Thank you for your inquiry. An MS and an MBA offer very different skills. I think that you need to consider whether you want to approach entrepreneurship from a technical or management perspective. Do you want to be the innovator or the individual who commercializes the innovation and grows the comp...

Re: Retake a 710?

Thank you for your question. Your overall score is very solid. You may have heard that schools generally like to see at least 80% in each of the Verbal and Quantitative sections. While this is generally a rule, there are certainly exceptions. In your case, the school will likely see your strong acad...

Re: Profile evaluation

Thanks for your question. While it's always difficult to judge just from a quick profile, it seems like you have picked schools that you would have a reasonable chance at. Depending on your recent extracurriculars and of course on your essays/recommendations, Columbia might be a bit of a stretch but...

Re: Profile evaluation

Hi Jessica, Firstly, thank you so much for your insight. With regards to my quant score, I received a 44Q which equates to a 70% for this particular sitting. I have looked at past percentiles for a 44Q and saw 70-75%. Would this be considered significantly below the 80%? My verbal was 93% @ 41. The...

Re: Retake GMAT 700?

Thank you for your inquiry. Given what you've told us about your academic background and extracurriculars, you have chosen schools that are reasonable, although there is no "safety school" among them. Harvard and Stanford will be a mild stretch, but I would encourage you to apply. A good r...

Re: Will AWA score hurt?

Thank you for your question and congratulations on an excellent GMAT score. In our experience, a 4.0 AWA score with a GMAT score like yours should not hurt your chances in any way. The only caveat to this would be if your verbal GMAT score was quite low. In that case, you may want to re-take the GMA...

Re: Sending in GMAT scores

Congratulations on doing well on the GMAT! It really does not matter whether you send your score in now or later. The AdComs are very busy with the current applicant pool and it won't catch much attention either way - they'll just put the score in your folder. Sincerely, Jessica Shklar MBA Mission 6...

Re: Need advice relating to recommendation letters

Thank you for your question. Business schools ask for very specific questions; therefore, all-purpose letters written in advance from your current supervisors probably will come across as somewhat generic and won't address each school's specific questions. In addition, in terms of process, the schoo...

Re: Career Change - Bschool

Hi Matt, thank you for your question. Part-time MBA programs in general have the expectation that you're pursing the mba in order to advance further in your current career. That doesn't mean a career change is impossible of course, but it does mean that the focus of the application questions, recomm...

Re: profile eval

Thanks for your inquiry. Thank you for your inquiry. With the caveat that you have not indicated anything about your extracurriculars/community activities, it seems like your profile is a reasonable one for the schools you're considering. You have solid work experience as well as entrepreneurial exp...
