In the rectangular coordinate system, are the points (a, b)

Hi. I got the following question during my first CAT In the rectangular coordinate system, are the points (a, b) and (c, d) equidistant from the origin? (1) a/b = c/d (2) square root(a^2) + square root(b^2) = square root (c^2) + square root (d^2). A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement ...

Re: In the rectangular coordinate system, are the points (a, b)

Thank you for the info, but that doesn't really address my question. I know why 1 alone isn't enough. (as you suggested, plug in numbers) I also know why 2 alone isn't enough (as you suggested again, plug in some numbers). I'm trying to understand that if you take statement 1 and 2 together, by |a| ...

chitrangada That was exactly what I had written, a past perfect progressive. The Official GMAT guide says that past perfect progressives are used to "describe an action of some duration that was completed before another past action occurred." Maybe the problem is that the action of "w...

SC - Affording strategic proximity to the Strait of Gibralta

Affording strategic proximity to the Strait of Gibraltar, Morocco was also of interest to the French throughout the first half of the twentieth century becuase they assumed that if they did not hold it, their grip on Algeria was always insecure. a) if they did not hold it, their grip on Algeria was ...

Is positive integer n - 1 a multiple of 3? (1) n^3 - n is a multiple of 3 (2) n^3 + 2n^2+ n is a multiple of 3 DS question: 1. Re: In the rectangular coordinate system, are the points (a, b)

Oh, one other point. As perhaps you already understood Gokul, statement 2 gives us |a|+|b|=|c|+|d|, not a+b=c+d. Your reasoning after that still works, though. Very nicely done. Now, having said that, I've seen students have much more success testing values on this question than solving formally. A...

Re: Esteria vs Burdistan

I fell for answer C. My logic was that if "many Esterian consumers have continued to purchase domestically manufactured vehicles" -> the number of vehicles sold would not do down. I think in my mind, I equated "many" > 50% or the word most. If I'm correct, I think the reaso...

Re: The Carson family will purchase three used cars. There are

Thanks Jamie. That explanation helps. I still have another question that I want you to help me correct my thinking. I understand that if I don't divide by 3!, I'm picking number of combinations of a particular order, such as the example you game of A-red, B-black, and B-green. However, I would think...
