Is x^4 + y^4 > Z^4 ?

(1) x^2 + y^2 > z^2 (2) x + y > z OA is E. Here is my approach to the problem (I chose A): Test numbers: Start with statement (2): x=1, Y=2, Z=1 YES x=-1, Y=-2, Z=-10 NO Therefore, Insufficient Go to statement (1) (+) or (-) does not matter, since numbers are squared. We need to try fractions,...

If -2x > 3y, is x negative

(1) y>0 (2) 2x+5y-20=0 OA is D Nice problem. Initially I thought it is A, but after the following reasoning I chose D. Is there any better way of solving this? solution: (1) -2x>3y. If y>0, then x needs to be negative (zero would not work). Sufficient (2) break down equation as follows 2x+5...

Re: Gmat 1-660.Considering Retake.Need really helpful advice.

Retake the exam in 31 days. You can do it. (Unless you believe that this 660 reflects your true abilities -- if this is the case, then you should focus on other parts of your application that can hopefully prove to the adcoms your academic rigor.) It is surprising that you scored a 730 at Gmatprep (...

Re:

Zero is the third sign! neither positive, nor negative. If it were an option, the answer would be E. But due to the problem's constraints, zero is not an option.

Re: DS question : If X # -Y, Is (X-Y)/(X+Y) > 1

Question : If X # -Y, Is (X-Y)/(X+Y) > 1 (1) X > 0 (2) Y < 0 **** I don't think there is an easy algebraic solution, since we don't know the sign of (X+Y), and we can hence NOT cross-multiply. However, you can try to make the numbers positive >1 and negative by picking the right pairs, s...

Re: DS question : If X # -Y, Is (X-Y)/(X+Y) > 1

Watch this: http://vimeo.com/22453684 A number line helps you test values in a systematic way. Unfortunately I cannot show you how I would do this at this specific problem, because I cannot draw lines here! Also, given that your exam is in 4 days, I'd recommend you perfect skills you already possess...

If X < 0 , then SQRT ( ( -x) * |x| ) is equal to?

If X < 0 , then SQRT ( ( -x) * |x| ) is equal to?

-x , -1, 1, x, SQRTX

Apologies if this has already been posted.

OA is -x. I would say it is X (shouldn't it be |x|?), because a square root is always positive (x^2=4 -- x=+/- 2, but SQRT4 = 2)

Please advise. Thanks!

If Company M ordered a total of 50 computers and printers

If Company M ordered a total of 50 computers and printers and Company N ordered a total of 60 computers and printers, how many printers did company M order? (1) Company M and Company N ordered the same number of computers (2) Company N ordered 10 more printers than Company M. OA is E. Here is my sol...
