I have searched several forums but have not found a conclusive answer to this question. My concepts are in place so I need a lot of practice now to u...

Re: SC Strategy Guide - Topic on tenses

Tim, sorry I was just anxious to get an answer for my question.. I had posted it long back and was wondering if it went unnoticed by the mods.. Coming back to the question, to be honest, I am not sure of the source of the question because I came across it on one of the forums. I know it is taboo to ...

Re: SC Strategy Guide - Topic on tenses

Just to add to what I said earlier, It was....that is correct usage, so I am wrong in my assessment of "that" in the sentence.. Also, regarding the error on the page, yes I checked it on the forum error list and it is present there oh and I have another one of the same kind - "It was ...

Re: instead of vs rather than

Hi, I came across the following question in a Manhattan CAT which tests the usage of "Instead of" and "Rather than". Rather than accept the conventional wisdom that the earth was flat, Christopher Columbus was sent by the king and queen of Spain to see if he could reach India by ...

Numbers in comparisons

Hi, Pg 256 of the SC guide, Numbers in Comparison, states that when relating quantities by multiplication use "times" and "as...as..." Is there ever an exception to this rule? Specifically, is the following construction acceptable? If so, why and if not then can you please help m...

Verbals: Infinitives

Hi, This is in reference to the advanced topic on verbs and comparisons. Page 250 mentions that the subject of the main verb must also be the subject of the infinitive. I tried to apply this rule to the following construction to verify that the usage of the infinitive "to deal" is correct ...

Re: Verbals: Infinitives

Thanks buddy, that was good stuff.

I have read the guide but I was a bit vary about certain things. I think your advice about progressive tenses makes sense - Use when required and in the right context.

Re: Until Antoine Lavoisier proved otherwise...

Ron, Beg your pardon but don't you think the usage of the relative pronoun 'whose' is incorrect in this sentence. I have usually seen that 'whose' modifies people and sometimes places but I have never seen it modify an object like in this question. Would you be so kind to clarify the acceptable styl...
