Re: GMAT 750 - some thoughts

Hi Sarthak, Congrats on your score! That's amazing. I scored a 660 in my first attempt and need to cross that 700 mark. One question- would you mind sharing the excel file that you maintained to track your progress. It would really help me get an idea of how exactly to track proglems. Also, did you ...

Re: Is |x| < 1 ?

In this question, what I do not understand from the explanation is the following: 1. If x < -1, the values inside the absolute value symbols on both sides of the equation are negative, so we must multiply each through by -1 (to find its opposite, or positive, value): |x + 1| = 2|x -1| -(x + 1) = ...

Re: SC: Currently 26 billion barrels a year...

A question on the phrase 'increasing rate'. Is this used correctly in the answer choices? The correct answer choice (A) does not use the word 'increasing' when talking about the rate. Thanks!

Re: Kamannia

Q. A company sells only pens and pencils. The revenue from pen sales in 2007 was up 5% from 2006, but the revenue from pencil sales declined 13% over the same period. If overall revenue was down 1% from 2006 to 2007, what was the ratio of pencil revenue to pen revenue in 2006? i used the same weigh...

Re: Kamannia

Thanks very much, Ron. I viewed the video and subsequently enjoyed getting all the weighted average problems in the video as well as those in the strategy guide right. :)

5th ed., Ch. 5 #8 page 93 - THREE Overlapping Sets formula?

The 38 movies in a video store fall into the following 3 categories: 10 action, 20 drama, and 18 comedy. however, some movies are classified under more than one category: 5 are both action and drama, 3 are both action and comedy and 4 are both drama and comedy. how many action-drama-comedies are the...

Re: 5th ed., Ch. 5 #8 page 93 - THREE Overlapping Sets formula?

Thanks, Tim. I should have added this to my initial post: plugging in numbers in both formulas doesn't give me the same answer. The correct answer is 2. Using Formula 1, I get x=2, if action-drama-comedies are x. # of items total = (a + b + c) - (ab + ac + bc) + (abc) 38 = (10+20+18) - (5+3+4) + x 3...

Re: SC sound

I eliminated choices (A) and (B) based on this: 'prevented from...' suggests that the sound itself is being prevented from something. However, its the acoustic energy that is prevented from dissipating. Is this reasoning right? All the talk of auxillary verbs, absolute phrases and other things that ...

Re: CR : wind and solar power

Hi, I picked D as the answer as I thought the conclusion of the argument is that utility companies expect to use renewable forms of energy at a lower cost. Answer choice D directly addresses this fact by stating that the technology to switch is NOT more expensive than the process by which current en...
