Re: Sequence ... Each term is either 7 or 77

One alternate method
7 * 50 = 350
7 * 11 + 7 * 39 = 350
77 * 1 + 7 * 39 = 350
So one solution could be 1+39 = 40

Re: Are at least 10 percent of the people in country X who are 6

One quick approach Assume M = Men, W = Women Statement 2 is sufficient because of the following reason 20M/100 + 10W/100 = 10M/100 + 10M/100 + 10W/100 = 10M/100 + 10(M+W)/100 > 10(M+W)/100 So, 20% of men and 10% of women is always greater than 10% of men and women Statement 1 does not talk about ...

Re: A contractor combined x tons of a gravel mixture

By applying allegation as explained above we can have something like this
x : y : z = 3 : 5 : 8

if we know any one of them we can find other two

Re: Is range of S > 2????

Statement 1:
w-z > 2
=> w>z
Other two numbers might be > w, in between w & z, or < z.
No matter what are the other two numbers the range will always greater than 2

Sufficient

Statement 1:

Insufficient

Re: (rt(9 + rt80) + rt(9 - rt80))^2 =

( sqrt( 9 + sqrt( 80 ) ) + sqrt( 9 - sqrt( 80 ) ) ^2
a^2 = 9 + sqrt( 80 )
b^2 = 9 - sqrt( 80 )

a^2 + b^2 = 18

(ab)^2 = 81 - 80 =1

(a+b)^2 = 18 + 2*1 = 20

Re: percents

Question says
assets in 1994 was 300 percent greater than the total in 1993
assets in 1993 was 400 percent greater than the total in 1992

Year Year Year
1992 : 1993 : 1994
100 : 500 : 2000
or
1 : 5 : 20
or
N : 5N : 20N

So 20N is the answer

Re: gmat Prep Math Question

Statement 1:

210 = 1,000 ((1+r/100)^2 -1)
r = 10%

Sufficient

Statement 2:
(1+r/100)^2 > 1.15 = 115/100 = (1+7.23/100)^2

r > 7.23
r may take any value between 7.23 and 8 or >= 8
So, we can't say whether it would be lesser than, greater than, or equal to 8

Insufficient

Ans: A

Statement 1: Insufficient Statement 2: Insufficient Statement 1 and 2 x + y < 73/72 = 1 + 1/72 x + y could be 1 + 1/74, 1 + 1/76, 1 + 1/200 , 1, 1/10, 1/16, 20, and so on So we can't conclude that whether x+y would be greater than, less than, or equal to 1 but we say only that x+y < 1 + 1/72 I...

Re: For every positive even integer n, the function h(n)

h(100) + 1 = (2 x 4 x ...100 + 1) = (2^50) * (1 x 2 x...50) +1 Now if we divide this number by any number lesser than 50 you will get a reminder of 1, you should always use a number greater than 50 to completely divide this number, hence the least prime factor will have to be greater than 50 to sati...

Re: Measurments in increasing order

Since, all the values of x, given is question, is greater than 10

median = (6+8)/2 = 7

mean = (33+x)/6

median = mean * 6/7

x = 16
