Re: overlapping sets in gmat prep

The OA must be Either of the ones is sufficient. Explanation: It can be easily explained using a figure. let a = ppl who like L only b = ppl who like both L and S c = ppl who like S only d = ppl who dont like either it is given that 2/3 (a+b+c+d) = c+d ----- equation 1 and (3/5)*(2/3)* (a+b+c+d) = d...

Re: CR:Objective behind conclusion

My take is B Reason: The advertisers of any product first show the benefits of the product and try justifying the cost of the product. In the advertisement there is no where mentioned about the uses of food processors or how they are going to benefit the customers. Whether potential customers have e...

Re: CR:Objective behind conclusion

As explained in the reason I mentioned, the first and foremost thing the advertiser has to do is to portray the benefits and justify his sale. If you look into the question, it says "logically prior issue the manufacturer;s advertisements fail to address" . "A""D" and &...

Re: gmat Prep Math Question

The first point you made is true.. Not sure abt that. Second one, shortest way is put 8 in (1+r/100)^2 which will come to 1.16 appr.. now the 2 nd option says it is greater than 1.15.. by this it is possible that r is 8, and hence it is "=8" and it is also possible to be r>8 say 9 or an...

Re: CAT 1 - DS - Expensive Jacket

Nope.. You need not..Check this out. Given : 4X=5Y and Jacket Cost = 4X = 5Y Therefore, if we get to know either of X OR Y.. we are done with the answer. Statement -1 : Y=0.8X ==> Y=8/10*X ==> Y=4/5X ==> 4X=5Y Therefore, it is simplified to the given thing and nothing new it says. So, not S...

Re: If c and d are integers, is c even? GMATPrep - DS

If c and d are integers, is c even? (1) c(d + 1) is even (2) (c + 2)(d + 4) is even A product is even only in the below two cases: Even * Even = Even Even * odd = Even Statement -1 : Worst case is Even * Odd Either C is even and (d+1) is odd or C is odd and (d+1) even Not Sufficient to answer Either...

Re: Are x and y both positive? 1) 2x - 2y = 1, 2) x/y > 1

good one.. Hi Ron,

The figures I have taken are not going along with the OA. Please can you clarify

x=1, y=1/2 , both positive, x-y=1/2 (cond1) and x>y (Cond2)
x=-1/4, y=-3/4 , both negative, x-y=1/2 (cond1) and x>y (Cond2)

How can we say for sure that both are sufficient.

Thanks

Re: Are x and y both positive? 1) 2x - 2y = 1, 2) x/y > 1

Thanks Tim for responding. The question is the same as mentioned in the previous posts in this thread. Are x and y both positive? (1) 2x − 2y =1 (2) x/y > 1 This is a GMAT Prep question and the OA shows as Both statements together can solve the question. Also, I can see that the OA is acknowled...
