Re:

[/quote] (i) both of those constructions have their place in the english language. the infinitive construction, though, is usually used in one of the following situations: a) the action is to take place in the future: my block has five houses to be sold in foreclosure b) you're talking about some so...

Re: GMAT PREP SC: Single-Family House...

the key here is that a lot of past-tense verbs look the same as their modifier forms. e.g., Ron came back into the house, his clothes soaked from the sudden rainstorm --> this is a sentence. here, "soaked" is NOT a verb (the clothes didn't soak anything!). it's a modifier. this is also...

Re: SC---Whereas the honeybee’s stinger is heavily barbed...

you're welcome. Ron, Thank you for the great explanations. In E, is 'Comma+thus+ING' correct? I have seen you using thus in another style (salvage) - I met with an accident and thus I am late- but here 'comma+thus+ING' dosent seem correct. I have seen sentences that use 'Comma+thus'. We use 'ING' f...

Re: Sentence correction

Ron, Thank you for the great explanations. Although I selected the correct answer, I had tough time eliminating D. Mainly I want to ask when is the construction 'That XXXXXXXX' correct? If the sentence were written in this way-That ocean white caps have an effect on global warming is one of the many...

Re: Part of the proposed increase in state education spending

Without getting into grammatical terminology (which isn't going to help anyone), here's a basic explanation of how that construction works. When you have "with + noun + VERBing...", that part should describe some aspect , part , or consequence of the stuff that precedes it -- but shouldn'...

In A and also E, 'able to' is used. If 'Verbed' after able to doesnt not describe the quality, then we will not use able to+VerbED right? I have seen you using 'Sound is able to shatter glass' (Sound could actually do something), 'the rate that trees are able to grow'(this wont work because trees d...

Re: With starting the sentence

Ron, I am not doubting the official answer but I easily eliminated D because of the 'Preposition+Noun+ING'rule. Could you please correct me on this rule? In D, the cost of wireless service plummeting means that cost and not wireless service is plummeting and is that why D is fine? In the other examp...

Re: Viking-Age Scandinavia

Ron, Thanks for the great explanation. I chose the correct answer but ,in the exam stress, I had a tough time eliminating B. I know that despite is a preposition and thus it needs to be followed by a noun. In B, despite modifies no fundamental difference (which is a noun, right?). I remember one exa...

Re: Using new detection techniques, researchers have found trace

Ron, Could you please explain why C is wrong. I narrowed it down to C and E. E clicked but I didnt have any point to eliminate C. Is C wrong because some people have their treatment changed. That is just a small exception to the trend or is it wrong for a different reason. Im not able to make an ano...
