As...as comparison

In sentence "we have three times as many pears as you", would it be more formal not omit the helping verb after 'you' ? What is the rule of thumb when dealing w/ this kind of sentence structure?

Comparison Question

In sentence "we have three times as many pears as you", would it be more formal not to omit the helping verb after 'you' ? What is the rule of thumb when dealing w/ this kind of sentence structure?
