If y>=0, what is x?

Q) Y >= 0,
What is the value of x?

1) |x-3| >= y

2) |x-3| <= -y

What is the best way to approach this problem?

Thank,

x != y, Is x-y/x+y > 1?

x != y Is x-y/x+y > 1? 1) x > 0 2) y < 0 If we plug-in the number it is clear that the answer is E. But is there any conceptual approach to solve this. I tried to do the following which results in the solution as B (which is incorrect) x-y/x+y > 1? If we simplify... => x-y > x+y =&...

Stacy prepared 4 different letters..probability

Q) Stacy prepared 4 different letters to be sent to 4 addresses. For each letter she prepared an envelope with its correct address. If the 4 letters to be put in to 4 envelopes at random, what is the probability that only one letter will be put in to the envelope with the correct address? How do we ...

Is x^4 + y^4 > z^4 ?

Q) Is x^4 + y^4 > z^4 ?

1) x^2 + y^2 > z^2
2) x + y > z

How can we solve this?

Re: difficult DS question

god post above. i'll elaborate on the following: now the question is when |x-3| = 3 - x clearly when x <= 3. i don't know if i'd go as far as to say "clearly"; this is actually very difficult for most students of the gmat. takeaway: the absolute value will do one of two things to a qua...

Re: Is x^4 + y^4 > z^4 ?

Answer is E. I tried to plug-in the integers and fractions .. 1) x^2 + y^2 > z ^2 If we plug-in integers ----> x^2=1, y^2=4 and z^2=16 then x^2 + y^2 > z ^2 => 1 + 4 > 16 => 5 > 16 In this case, x^4 + y^4 > z ^4 => 1 + 16 > 256 => 17 > 256 --->TRUE However, if ...

Re: Would someone be able to give me some feedback on ISSUE AWA?

My GMAT exam is on 23rd of this month. I would really appreciate if you could give your feedback. The issue is whether the performance and merit based compensation is better or seniority based compensation is better to encourage the high productivity. In my view, the employee compensation should be ...

I meant x is not equal to y (x != y )...

Thanks...as you said I assumed x+y as positive.

Re: The Value of Cube Root of -89 is

Answer is C

It is between -4 and -5.

One way to look is: cube of -4 is -64 and cube of -5 is -125. As -125<-89<-64, the cube root of -89 will be between -4 and -5.

Hope it helps.

Re: Circular gears P and Q start rotating at the same time at co

Circular gears P and Q start rotating at the same time at constant speeds. Gear P makes 10 revolutions per minute, and gear Q makes 40 revolutions per minute. How many seconds after the gears start rotating will gear Q have made exactly 6 more revolutions than gear P? I guess the important informati...

Re: 2^n = n^2

Yep.
n=2 => 2^2 = 2^2 = 4
n=4> 2^4 = 4^2 = 16

I am wondering is there any better approach/trick to solve these kind of problems or just we have to plug-in numbers and verify?
