Re: Laos has a land area

We use "compared to" to compare unlike object and "compared with" to compare like objects.

Here we are comparing land area with land area so why do we have comparable to rather than comparable with?

Doesn't option B makes it a run-on sentence?

"wasps that live in a highly cooperative and organized society consisting almost entirely of females"”the queen and her sterile female workers."

Re: standard rule for using greater than Vs more than

Hi Stacey/Ron,

Can we say that Percentage, Amount and NumberS should have greater than; and Number and Double should have more than? Also "times" in itself doesn't determine the usage of "More than" and "greater than".

Thanks in Advance :)

Re: GMAT Question:- A recent review of pay scales indicates

Hi Ron/Instructors, I studied long back (unable to recall the source) that whenever we have "times" we MUST use some comparative words such as more than, fewer than, as... as. I am not questioning Official Question, which is always right. I just wanted to check whether the above rule is wr...

Re: Scientists have found signs that moving water changed

Hi Ron/Instructors, We have "have found" and "have concluded". As I understood, have is used for an event that started in past and that is continuing right now. Scientists already found the signs or already concluded in the past. They are not finding those signs or concluding rig...

Parallelism around "than"

Hi, I went through Thursdays with Ron video "Sentence Correction: Comparison Problems" of 9th April 2015. Can we have following constructions correct? 1) "The seat of chair A is more worn [now] than last week." (now is not mentioned) 2) "The seat of chair A is more worn [now...

Thanks Ron, I got what you are saying. :) I got too emotional with that so called rule ;). Hi Ron/Instructors, I studied long back (unable to recall the source) that whenever we have "times" we MUST use some comparative words such as more than, fewer than, as... as. three times four is twe...

Hi Ron, As I studied in one of the "Thursdays with Ron" session, following usage of "being" is correct: 1) When it is used as a noun 2) When passive continuous verb tense is required to communicate the meaning. (In most of the official questions, I saw its correct usage as is bei...

Re: SC question

In this sentence: Bob runs faster than any man in the world. He can't run faster than himself! In this case Bob is a subset of Man so usage of "other" makes sense. However, in our case we have July and any month since October. July'87 is not a subset of any month since October'87. So isn't...

Re: Marconi’s conception of the radio

Hi Ron/Instructors, Sorry to bump this old thread. I have same doubt as songxue1205 had. I went through all the threads but still I guess that question is unaddressed. from what we've seen - if you have "which" following "noun1 + preposition + noun2", then "which" can r...

Hi Ron, In A, we have "Complete Sentence - comma - Complete sentence". If we replace "he therefore" with "therefore he", would therefore act as conjunction to join two ICs? As in the case of comma-FANBOYS. Is comma-FANBOYS rule (to join two ICs) is explicitly for FANBOY...

Re: Budget package in Congress

I read somewhere (most probably in MGMAT SC Guide) that whenever we have comma - FANBOYS, both the sentences must be ICs.

Over here we have ",or perhaps even by pushing them lower", which is not IC. I am unable to understand where I am getting wrong.

Please guide.

Ethnohistoric documents from sixteenth-century Mexico

Passage: Ethnohistoric documents from sixteenth-century Mexico suggesting that weaving and cooking were the most common productive activities for Aztec women may lead modern historians to underestimate the value of women's contributions to Aztec society. Since weaving and cooking occurred mostly (bu...
