Re: Guide 4th e. Chapter 4 Parallelism Problem set

So Tim is saying " Tobacco companies, shaken by a string of legal setbacks in the U.S. but retaining strong growth....world, face an uncertain future." is correct. What kind of phrase "shaken by a string ..." would be? Part participle phrases come from past tense passive voice. L...

Re: Is ABCD Square?

The source of the question is the GMAT prep.

Should we also consider "complex" or "self intersecting" quadrilateral in Q like this? Q says "Is quadrilateral ABCD Square?"

I forgot to put the "quadrilateral" word in the question.

Re: Modifier help!

Why not "an interplay"? "an interplay" is singular also. Q is not defining subject because the verb is singluar or plural, it is about defining what subject the "that" should refer to. If that + verb is not in underlined portion, than you know where to go. But what if b...

Re: Is ABCD Square?

I was just wondering does the complex quadrilateral satisfies the above condition. I don't know how to insert the pic. I am talking about the top two quadrilateral in the pics in the following URL. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f1/Quadrilateral_hierarchy.png Ron, Thanks for looking...

Re: Modifier help!

Ron,

I am still not clear on what "that clause" that I mentioned refers to. Would you please shed some lights on it?

How is this sentence a valid sentence?

Reading quality literature is suggested around the forums as one of the way to increase verbal skills. I tried doing that and got even more confused. Here is the first sentence of Babbit, nobal prize winning nobel: The towers of Zenith aspired above the morning mist; austere towers of steel and ceme...

Verbal from 37/38 to 41/42 +

Hello Instructors, I am a non-native speaker. I took the real GMAT couple of weeks earlier and received 37 in verbal. I think the score is kind of underestimated. Because of the urge to go to restroom, I could not focus on the second half of verbal. Anyway I think I am at 38/39 range. I need to get ...

What is the value of xy?

What is the value of xy?

(1) 3^x ∗5^y =75

(2) 3^{(x−1)(y−2)} =1

Is stmt 1 sufficient? Even if the Q does not say that x adn y are integers, can x and y have any other value other than 1 and 2 to satisfy the equation?

Thanks,
BC

Re: What is the value of xy?

It is one of the question from the GMAT Club tests. The question is in public domain in one of their threads. Its just that I did not find any of the reasoning convincing out there so I wanted to get some concept clarification from one of the experts here.

Thanks,
