Re: Profile Evaluation 690

I really like your story - started in hospitality management, moved over to start your own consultancy in the same field, and ultimately want to combine these two to start your own resort. Makes total sense! Cornell was definitely the first school that came to mind for you, so I’m glad you found it ...

Re: Profile Evaluation (720 GMAT)

Hi! Looks like you’ve been pretty busy since college - and that’s a good thing. I’d need to know a little more detail about your non-profit board role and level of activity, but overall it seems like you’d be competitive at a top school. That said, I wouldn’t say that your profile screams HBS or GSB...

Re: Profile Evaluation (720 GMAT)

That really depends on your career goal. If you can weave a story that explains your career transitions as a logical lead-up/preparation for your ultimate career goal, then it shouldn't be an issue. If you don't really have a narrative to explain the quick transitions, then it could be slightly nega...

Re: Profile Evaluation 720 (Q48, V41)

At a high level, I think you have a solid professional and academic foundation to be competitive at a top 5 school; however, I do feel like your community experience is a bit ad-hoc/non-linear. Sounds like you’ll have good leadership stories to tell from work, and I think that your entrepreneurial e...

Re: 630!A good enough score for a good bschool if backed by app?

Sorry to hear about the GMAT score. Keep in mind that the scores reported by the schools are median or average scores, meaning that half the class scored lower than what they report. Also, the GMAT is not the only dimension they look at when evaluating your candidacy. We’ve had clients compensate fo...

Re: Profile Evaluation.. Please suggest. Thank you!

Based on the information provided, I’m going to assume that you don’t really have much in the way of community and/or extracurricular activities. I am not sure what kind of work you do, but again I’m going to assume that you are a software engineer in a purely technical role based on your schooling....

Re: GMAT 640(Q48 V28 AWA 4) 3yr exp in IT

Hi Arun. Thanks for your note. I think that with your current profile, INSEAD is a bit of a reach and rather unlikely. Cornell and ISB are more reasonable, but even with these schools it would really help to get your GMAT score up. You’ll be competing against a lot of Indian male IT candidates, unfo...

Re: GMAT 640(Q48 V28 AWA 4) 3yr exp in IT

Arun - as most of these achievements are from 7-10 years ago, they will not help your application stand out much at a school like INSEAD. These types of schools tend to accept students who remained active after college, not those who dropped extracurricular/leadership activities as soon as they bega...

Re: Profile Evaluation (670 GMAT)

Hi Nick, Thanks for reaching out, and thanks for your service. I think your Army experience is going to definitely help your case -- generally speaking, candidates that I've worked with in the past tend to come out of the military with phenomenal leadership experiences, which makes for great fodder ...

Re: Profile Evaluation

Hi Arun, Thanks for sharing your profile. If I'm interpreting this correctly, you've only graduated from college 7 months ago. In this case, it is likely too early for you to apply to business school. On average, candidates have at least 3-5 years of professional work experience before applying to b...

Re: Profile Evaluation

Hi Pratik, Glad to provide input! Congrats on being done with the GMAT - even if you didn't achieve your desired score, you finished and you did quite decently. At a high level glance, it seems that you could be competitive at a school like INSEAD, but it's difficult to say without knowing more abou...

Re: Profile Evaluation

Hey Pratik! Thanks for the additional context. I would say that the work experience is great and the fact that you have 4 direct reports is really going to stand out - that's not typical for someone a few years out of school. The community work sounds pretty substantive -- but doesn't sound like you...

Re: Profile Evaluation (720 GMAT)

Congrats on the great score! Generally we do recommend that you aim for an 80th percentile or higher on each section of the GMAT, so your quant score is just on the border. You're correct that it'll likely confirm any suspicions that you are more of a 'poet' than a 'quant', but there are other ways ...

Re: better school - smeal or babson?

Hello, Babson and PSU are in a similar tier, though Babson is slightly higher rank. I would say that Babson probably has a better overall reputation, though it is especially known for its strength in entrepreneurship. It seems that both schools offer a marketing concentration, but I do not know whic...
