Combinatorics: Using the Glue Method vs. Slot Method

Hello, This is from the World Translations Strat. Guide. pg. 73 under "Arrangement with Constraints" Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby, and Cindy go to a movie and sit next to each other in 6 adjacent seats. If Marcia and Jan will not sit next to each other, in how many different arrangement...

FDP: Chapter 7- Weighted Averages

Hello, This is from FDP Ch. 7 page 104 #12 vs. #14. For 12, I used a method taught in one of the Thursday with Ron: Weighted Average is 50%. Brand A is 40% (which is 10% less than 50) Brand B is 65% (which is 15% greater than 15) So find the LCM--->30. 3 parts of A to 2 parts of B balances out to...

Re: Fourth Edition, Guide 3 Inequalities, pg 101, Q9

Yes this is a general rule as long as the denominator is positive. If the numerator stays the same and the denominator decreases to a smaller positive number, then the value of the fraction will increase. a=2, b=3 a/b: If you decrease b, the fraction increases as long as b is positive. If b turns ne...

Positive/Negative Inequality Algebra

"Is m + z > 0? "(1) m - 3z > 0 "(2) 4z - m > 0" Question: I quickly realized neither (1) nor (2) are sufficient using theory, then when deciding between C and E, I ran into this question. Combining inequalities: Is this approach correct: 1) add these two inequalities, leading to z>0 2) ...

Re: Accounting for repitition in the Line Method Combinatorics

Okay on this one I think the approach that makes the most sense is to count how many repeats you have and how many sundaes with no repeats. 4 flavors means 4 possible flavor combinations (4C1) if you have two of the same flavor. Multiply by two toppings to get 8 of course. If we have two different ...

Critical Reasoning Bible

Has anyone used this resource? Is it worth reading? I read the first 10 pages and it says that the first questions of the test are the most important because they establish a 'ceiling' for your score. It added that it is worth spending more time on the first 8-10 questions, as they are more valuable...

Critical Reasoning Patterns

Hi all, Regarding CR questions, is it possible to map out the patterns of correct/incorrect answers, and then look for those again on the test? In other words, is there a quantifiable number of patterns that the GmAT uses (or favorites that it has) that should be memorized and searched for on test d...

GMAT prep/ Resources

Hi all, Are the questions on Gmat PREP / OG more similar to actual questions on the GMAT than in the strategy guides? I.e. will we encounter question types on the official test that do not resemble questions found in the Strategy Guides? Also, is it possible to get access to GMAT prep, and is it wor...

Question Banks

Are the Question Banks adaptive?

Also, they seem harder than the CAT exams. Is this for a reason or am I just getting harder questions because i'm improving?

Also, If you retake the question banks, do they give new questions or just reshuffle the ones youve already done?

Thanks!

Re: Accounting for repitition in the Line Method Combinatorics

My attempt would be this: 4 flavors, in which you choose 2, which can be the same. 4!/(2!)(2!)= 6, but then you have to add back 4 because it could be vanilla/vanilla, chocolate/chocolate, etc. When you divide by the 2! 2!, you are essentially accounting for 2 things: 1) the two not chosen items are...

Insect-eating bats rely heavily on echolocation

Hi, This is from the RC part of a CAT exam: Insect-eating bats rely heavily on echolocation, a method of sensory perception by which certain animals orient themselves to their surroundings, detect obstacles, communicate with others, and find food. While using echolocation, these bats emit a series o...
