Re: Ratio problem : Petersons

then similarly like at the beginning 3:5=z:30=>z=18 ( new volume of acid in solution)

I have a doubt in the above statement

3:5 the ratio of acid is to base when the solution was altered and the solution initially contained 30 mm of base. So how could 3:5 be equal to z:30?

first, you must understand the holy canon of weighted averages. among the most important facts concerning such averages is the following: in taking a weighted average of 2 quantities, knowing the RATIO of the quantities is equivalent to knowing the VALUE OF THE AVERAGE itself. example: let's say ev...

Re: Robin split a total of $24,000 - another interest questi

first, find expressions for the interest on each of the two accounts: interest on x = 0.07x interest on y = (rate)(24000 - x) The question says "If investment earns 7% simple annual interest...". I don't know if I'm missing out something over here but doesn't it mean the whole investment ...

Re:

(1) remember that ratios are the same as fractions in this sort of context. this statement means that the FT employees are a smaller fraction of division Y than of the company as a whole. this means that they must be a bigger fraction of division X than of the company as a whole, because the fracti...

Topic wise Distribution of Questions in Quant

Could you please tell me approximately how many questions we could expect from each topic in the Quant section of GMAT? For e.g., max 1 or 2 questions in Combinatorics. Whats the current trend?

remember to be very literalwhen you read and interpret mathematical terms. if a problem says 'pair of factors, that's ALL it means: two factors. in particular, it does NOT mean 'two factors that multiply to give the original number', which is the assumption that appears to motivate the previous pos...

Re: A set of 15 different integers has a median of 25

and then go to: 26,27,28,29,30,31,43 The average of these numbers comes to 25.7 and not 25. So how can 43 be the solution? Am I missing something? There are 15 Integers. 25 is the median. The numbers after 25 i.e the next 6 integers (7th integer is 43), need not be consecutive. It could be 6 differ...

can u explain this one 2nd column, Frankie can't be ahead of Joe, so possible cases, 5! - 4! = 120 -24 = 96 Consider the slot method 2nd Case: _ <- Frankie can't come over here. Only remaining 4 mobsters can come over here. J <- We are considering Joe in the 2nd row. So 1. _ <- Now includi...

Re: Baseball's World Series matches

4 GAMES the probability that one team wins the series in 4 games is (1/2)^4, or 1/16. since either team could pull this off, that's 2 * 1/16, or 1/8. 5 GAMES for the series to last 5 games, the first four games must be 3-1. there are four ways in which this can happen, from the perspective of the w...

Re: Square root and exponents

Finding that x=2 is ok. But to me, finding x isn't sufficient to find y because we don't know the sign of y (The square root of x can be either >0 or <0)... So we don't know the sign of y3 As far as I know, in GMAT the square root will always be positive. For e.g., if x = sq rt (4), then x = ...

Re: Ice-polished rocks - MGMAT SC text clarification

Hey acethegmat, that's a really good question. But it's not quite the right question. In the original, (A) reads "in which great ice sheets had existed in now currently temperate areas." The giveaway there is "now currently," which is redundant. (A) in which great ice sheets had...
