Re: Scientists have identified an asteroid, 2000 BF19, that is

Hi, In my opinion, this sentence has two main issues. First is parallelism with "and" as the marker. Since the first clause before "and" starts with that , we need that after the second clause as well. On this rule, we can rule out choices A and B. Second issue is with the second...

Re: Question MGMAT post

Hi, If you simply look at context of the sentence, "it" clearly refers to the pizza. However, even grammatically, if you break the sentence into two parts separated by the parallel marker "and": take (verb) the pizza (noun - subject) out of the box (object of prepositional phrase...

Re: GMAT Prep SC

Hi, I think seraphicgirl has answered the question correctly, however I agree with Pooja that in answer choice E, "study" is the subject and not fruit fly. That is because the "fruit fly" is in the of-prepositional phrase and that makes it an unlikely candidate for the subject. &...

Re: Timing in verbal section

Hi Arjun, Sorry to hear about your experience, although 600 is not a bad score. When you say that this phenomenon occurred throughout the exam, do you mean that you frequently encountered questions that you struggled with and took too much time? One thing you should never do is fall behind on the ti...

Re: CR-The pace of technological development brings a constant..

Hi, I think the actual conclusion of the argument is: "if a company wishes to announce the upcoming sale of a new device, it should wait until purchases of the old device have begun to decline." Choice B correctly adds support to the analysts claim. If the company withheld the news of new ...

Re: miserably failed in my REAL

Hi, Sorry to hear about your experience. I had similar issues when doing my practice CATs. Stamina can be a real problem for some and it seems that you had the same issue. But good news is that it can be improved. When you give your practice CATs, make sure you do the following: 1. Be well rested. D...

Re: CR-The pace of technological development brings a constant..

Hi Subsrim, I don't think you are interpreting Choice B correctly. It is not implying that the media reports have no affect on the sales. It clearly says that Media tends to report planned introduction of new products while the sales of the old product are still strong. That is what the analyst is w...

Re: dr King's leters

Hi,

I think this is just a simple case of preference. It says in the last page of chapter 11 that Action nouns are preferred over Complex gerunds. The question is probably just meant for us to practice that rule

Re: hypothetical subjunctive

Tough one... First of all, this is not an If/Then construction as you are using "as though" and not if. Two reasons why I will not use "would": 1. "will" is used when talking about future in present moment and "would" is used when talking about future in past ...

Re: Reading Comprehension: Chapter 7, passage C

Hi, It is a bit strange to use the word disinterested but as the book suggests, the primary meaning of that word is "impartial" or "neutral". The last sentence that you point out is just one evidence that supports the possibility of the life on Mars. Basically the second paragrap...

Re: SC Question

Hi, I will choose E as my answer. Choices A, B and C can be ruled out as we are comparing the paintings of Georges to that of Vermeer, not to Vermeer himself. Its a tough one between D and E. I will not choose D because there is a change in the verb tense. The helping verb "did" is past te...

Re: The spatial relationships among the elements -CAT 2

Hi, Ricky, that rule (Phrase + Comma + Verbing) is for -ing forms, not for past participles. bhide_esha, I am not sure I fully understand your question about why "those" is used. Are you saying that "those" is not required at all? I will try and explain what I understand: The com...

Re: Working Verb & Verbal

Hi,

I don't think reading the definitions will suffice.

My suggestion is that you read chapter 13, which is the last advanced chapter that deals with verbals in details to understand them.

If you have already read it and still not understood, please post back

Re: SC Question

Hi Sumit,

No problem.

But I have checked other forums and there seems to be a difference in choice D. Can you please check the question and confirm whether choice D is:

"Much like Vermeer’s do"
OR
"Much like Vermeer’s did"

Re: The spatial relationships among the elements -CAT 2

Yup, that is an interesting point you make. I read up the section on Demonstrative Pronouns, MGMAT SC guide chapter 5. One of the differences between "they" and "those" is that personal pronouns such as they or it mean the same actual thing as the antecedent, whereas that or thos...
