Help needed on algebric word translation problems

Can any one of you please clarify whether "There are twice as many apples as bananas " and "There are two times as many apples as bananas " do mean the same thing? I.e Number of apples = 2 * number of bananas.

Is'nt "different from" the right idiom?? This is the only reason i chose E over D.. :(

Why is that the idiom "different from" not important here? Any specific reasons???
