scores decreasing every week,help me

by sharathe Sat Jun 19, 2010 9:08 am

I have been preparing for the gmat since two months. I have taken a GMAT prep test two months back and I scored 660 ( q50 , vXX). In MGMAT test1 I scored 650 (q46,v33). I was happy with my initial scores.

After those tests , I have been regularly writing tests every weekend. But I am very disappointed with the scores.

MGMAT cat 2 -- 630 (q47 , v29)
MGMAT cat 3 -- 620 (q47 , v28 )
MGMAT cat 4 -- 600 (q43 , v31 )

GMAT Prep 2 -- 620 ( q49 , v27 ).

I have not taken these tests in quick succession. And after each test,I used to prepare on areas where I find myself loosing out the score. Inspite all this my score is on free fall.

I am done with OG12 couple of times and have been reviewing all the tests regularly. I am very dejected and helpless now , not knowing what to study and how to study to improve my score.

Guys please help me.

Thanks.

Your test scores so far have been more stagnating than dropping - scores within about 50 points are within one standard deviation. Sometimes your quant is better, sometimes your verbal is better - but you haven't had a test on which you have done super-well on both the quant and the verbal at the same time. We need to figure out why.

On your fourth MGMAT test, your math score dropped a lot. Why? Do the analysis described in this article to try to understand why:

On your fourth MGMAT test, your verbal score went up a lot. Why? Do the analysis again.

On GMATPrep 2, your quant score jumped a lot but your verbal score dropped. Why? You won't have much data to help you figure this out (as you do with the MGMAT tests), but maybe doing the analysis on the MGMAT tests will give you some insights / ideas.

Are you taking tests under full official conditions, including essays? Are you taking only two breaks for 8 minutes each? Did you use the pause button on the MGMAT tests? Did you generally take these tests under similar circumstances (same time of day, after a good night's sleep, and so on)?

After you've done that test analysis described in the article linked above, come back here and tell us what you've found out. We'll help you try to interpret the message and figure out what to do.
