score inconsistency

by enginpasa1 Fri Oct 05, 2007 4:35 pm

I have been getting faster and better at my reading comprehension. However, I can't fix the inference problems. I seem to always choose the wrong answer choice. I know I am very close to cracking the code. Can someone help? MY second problem is that I seem to get nice answers like 6 correct out of 7 or 5 correct out of 7 and then completely bomb a another set of questions. IS there an explanation for this?

Confused yet strong!

Howdy. See the post entitled "Inference Questions" to address your first query. As for a lack of consistency, several factors could influence your ability to answer questions correctly, including but not limited to the difficulty level of the questions and your mental state during your practice (anxious, focused, tired, hungry, etc.). Try to practice while you are "fresh," and do short, highly focused "bursts" of practice rather than hours of drills. Also, be certain to spend adequate time reviewing your work. At MGMAT, we suggest to budget twice as much time for review as for solving problems; thus, a thirty minute section of problems could/should take an hour to properly review.
