The Battle of Bull Run, which took place on July 21, 1861 near the town of Manassas, an important event in American history in that this historic event was the first major ground battle of the Civil War, which resulted in over 500,000 deaths and a turning of the tide against the practice of slavery.

A) an important event in American history in that this historic event was the first major ground battle of the Civil War, which resulted in over 500,000 deaths and a turning of the tide against the practice of slavery.

OA given is D. My question is how come it can be D when the event happened in the past. Souldn't the verb be "was" ? Although, I know C is also wrong because of "had" usage. None of the option looks plausible to me.

Please help.

Also, please suggest me whether the PlatinumGMAT is worth source to practice ?

Even though the event happened in the past, It is an important event in American history.

the poster above me has this one: it's still important, so the present tense is appropriate.

i've seen some dubious questions from PlatinumGMAT, so i wouldn't recommend that source very highly.
