* SC Problem, Verb Predict

by emanuele_antonio.pascale Mon Mar 14, 2011 2:34 am

Since February, the FD has raised its short-term interest rate target five times, and because of the economy's continues strenght, analyst have been predicting for weeks that the target will be raised again in November.

1) because of the economy's continues strenght, analyst have been predicting for weeks that the target will

2)due to the economy's continues strenght, analyst have been predicting for weeks that the target

The correct answer choice is 2.

Can someone explain me the logic? I am a bit confused on the use of due to and on the elimination of will.

please read the forum rules: read-before-you-post-general-verbal-folder-guidelines-t2718.html

you can't post problems in this folder without giving the ORIGINAL SOURCE of the problem -- i.e., the company or author that first produced the problem (not, for instance, a forum or other secondhand source on which it has previously been posted).
if you don't know the original source, then i'm sorry, but you can't post the problem here.

we will delete this thread within a week if the original source of the problem is not posted. thanks.

Check out this thread about "due to" vs. "because of" and please let us know if we can help you further. due-to-vs-because-of-t3081.html

Thanks I read the thread.

I stil have some doubts.

Why will the analyst predict that the target will raise again? Because of economy's strenght.

So, does not "because of" modifies the verbs?

Cheers

Tim,

Which part of my question is not clear?

You told me to read the thread due vs because of and I did.

Then I applied the rule posted in the thread and I asked the question why vs what to understand the difference between due to and because of.

Why will the analyst predict that the target will raise again? Because of economy's strenght

In my opinion because of makes sense.

Can you please correct my reasoning.

Thanks
