SC Grammar related questions

Hi,

I have a couple questions...

a) Is using and & so together grammatically correct?

He was tired and hungry and so he went home.

Can we use "and so" (both together) ?

b) Can you please suggest the right usage for as well as ......what is the difference between and Vs as well as?

Also, can we use as well as for making lists......like we do with and

e.g X, Y, and Z
Can we say X, Y, as well as Z


c) I know that an essential modifier begins with that (see the following sentence)


During the nineteenth century Emily Eden and Fanny Parks journeyed throughout India, sketching and keeping journals that formed the basis of news reports about the princely states where they had visited.

In the above sentence the essential modifier is modifying journals. We know that journals is plural .....and so my question is that even if a noun modifier modifies a plural noun, the modifier will begin with that?

I know that plural of that is those than why don't we begin the modifier with those instead of that when the modifier modifies a plural noun.

I know that we say He earned less money than his brother.

We can't use lower than in the above sentence. But is the rule for using the two?

I chose between chocolate and strawberry ice cream.

I chose chocolate as well as strawberry ice cream.

One indicates a choice or distinction and the other joins together.

Also, can we use as well as for making lists......like we do with and

e.g X, Y, and Z
Can we say X, Y, as well as Z
In this construction, just use the simple "and".

You are confusing the two uses of "that". If "that" is used to introduce an essential modifier the plural content of that modifier is not relevant. If "that" is used as a pronoun it must refer back to a singular noun. For example, "my hair is longer than that of my sister".

You could say He earned a lower salary than his brother did.
