SC Comparisons- "the same X as Y.." vs "the same X that Y.."

Trying to understand the rule for using the word "as" vs "that" when comparing things.

For example:
Is it correct to say:
"I will jog the same route that he ran."

or is it correct to say:
"I will job the same route as him."

Then how does that differ when you say something like:
"I jogged much faster than he did." vs. "I jogged much faster than him."

Any help on this is much appreciated, its one of those things I never fully grasped.

About "than"

She gave him more money than I/I did.
In the above sentence, "THAN" is a conjunction introducing a subordinate clause "I did".
We are comparing (subjects + verbs).

She gave him more money than me.
This sentence has a different meaning.
It can be rephrased as :
She gave him more money than [she gave] me.
"Than" again is acting as a conjunction introducing a subordinate clause but the "subject + verb" [(She gave)]is implied here.

"Than" is "formally" used as a subordinating conjunction introducing a clause.
"Than" is "informally" used as a preposition introducing a noun/noun phrase.
Stick to "Than acting as a conjunction" and all problems will be solved.

You have already received great information about "than" so I will address this part of your question.

The first sentence is acceptable and the second is not. The second sentence contains an "as". "As" must only be used when I am comparing clauses, which are constructions that contain a noun and a verb. On the left of the "as" you have a noun and a verb, but on the right you only have a noun, "him". Thus, "as" is not an appropriate term of comparison.
