SC - 4th edition - chapter 7 - p.121

by alamouraa Tue Jan 05, 2010 10:18 pm

Hi,

On page 121, the answer for question # 9 talks about the indicative mood; however, I don't see anywhere in the book where it talks about this mood.

I see on page 112, it talks about the subjunctive mood, but what about the indicative one?

Thank you

The indicative mood is the way we normally write simple sentences. Pretty much everything that is discussed in the Verbs chapter is in the Imperative Mood (except where it talks about the Subjunctive Mood).

I went the library to check out a book. I will go to the post office to buy some stamps.

A second mood is the imperative mood; these are commands.

Clean up your room! Do you homework right now!

The third mood is the subjunctive mood. These express hypothetical situations.

If I were a rich man ...
The major recommended that the streets be repaired.

Hope that helps.
