run-on sentence?

by sudaif Fri Jul 23, 2010 4:45 am

Isn't this a run-on sentence?

Once thought to be poisonous itself, the tomato is harmless and now eaten in large quantities around the world, and is a member of the generally toxic nightshade family, including belladonna.

I’m going to let you answer this one yourself. If you want to prove something is a run-on sentence, you must provide two independent clauses that are not sufficiently separated (eg. with a semicolon or a comma-conjunction). Your move..
