Retaking the GMAT, where to begin?

by jyoti_nanda Tue Dec 07, 2010 4:56 pm

Hi, so I recently took the GMAT and was not very happy with my score: 590 Q 36 V 35. I know that I need to take it again, but am lost as to where to begin.

Some background information:
I took the 9 session in class course, which finished on Nov 9. From then i studied on my own, did all of the questions in the Quant and Verbal OG 2nd Edition books.

Cat Exams:
MGMAT 1: 560 Q 35 V 32
MGMAT 2: 660 Q 44 V 36
MGMAT 3: 610 Q 34 V 39
GMAT Prep 1: 540 Q 33 V 31
GMAT Prep 2: 620 I forget the specific scores but Q was higher than V, and V was low 30's and Q was high 30's low 40's.

Based on my practice test scores, I wasn't expecting a very high score but wanted a minimum 600. I am planning to re-write to test again end of January 2011, and would really appreciate any advice on what to do.

I have gone through OG 12, OG v 2nd and OG q 2nd. I reviewed my answers when right and wrong, and understood most concepts aside from probability and very difficult combinatoric questions (which I only saw one of on the actual test anyway). I have gone through all of the strategy guides, and all of the MGMAT flash cards.

During the actual exam, i was very uncomfortable (room too hot, headache, and poor stamina near the end of the exam to the point where I wasn't even comprehending most of the verbal questions.) I have always felt that verbal was my strength, especially sentence correction, so was very dissapointed with my performance in the verbal section.

I would book private tutoring sessions however the cost is an issue, so If you can give me some guidance on how to increase my score within 5 weeks I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Yes, I have great advice for you!

You're eligible for a free Post-Exam Assessment. This is a phone call with an instructor to figure out what went wrong and come up with a plan to re-take the test - the instructor will tailor his/her advice for your specific situation, strengths, weaknesses, etc. Send an email - right now! - to studentservices@manhattangmat.com and request the Post-Exam Assessment.

If you then have additional questions or want to discuss the advice you get in more detail, please come back here and let us know!
