RETAKE IN 16 DAYS?

by kshitijg17 Tue Sep 15, 2015 11:27 am

Well its heartbreaking to post this....
I gave my second attempt today... Got a 650.... Q 50 V 28

In my first attempt I had got 700 Q 47 V 38...
My second attempt was given to break into the 720 plus range. However, things went really bad in verbal.
My Mgmat mock scores ranged from 640 to 730... The last one being 730 Q45 V45 two days prior to the test.
I had not given GMAT PREP tests as I was familiar with the questions due to the previous attempts.
My Gmatpill mock score was 750 Q 47 V45. Three days prior to the test.
During verbal I was very confused somehow. I am not sure if just got tired of it all.
I had given 11 mocks prior to this attempt. I had never scored below 35 in verbal.
Now I am confused if it was just a bad day and I should retake after 16 days..
or should I move ahead with my 700 score.
I am under a time constraint now as am in the merchant navy and might or might not be here after 16 days... but if I shall leave itl only be after 6 months that I will return... I can still work on my essays onboard... and submit applications.
So any expert advice would be really appreciated.
Would retaking after 16 days be worth it?

If you were feeling very confused, and if you had burned yourself out (which it sounds like you did, since you took a practice test two days before and you took a total of 11 tests!!), then yes, your verbal score dropped because your brain was just too mentally fatigued to function in the way that it normally does.

This is what mental fatigue feels like:

You've got a 700 score locked in, which is awesome. If you don't mind paying the extra $250, then feel free to take the test again in 16 days. BUT: do not burn yourself out this time. Go in there with the attitude that you're just giving it a shot and it doesn't really matter because you've already got a 700 with solid Q and V subscores (yay!). You can do some light studying in that timeframe, but don't take a ton of tests and don't burn yourself out in the time leading up to the real test. (The general rule: the closer you get, the less you do.)

Do think about how you made decisions during your tests - to spend extra time on a certain problem, to bail on some problems, etc. That kind of stuff is what's going to help you get an extra 20 points, not practicing 500 questions and 10 practice tests. :)
