Restrictive vs unrestrictive modifiers, how to pick?

How do we correctly pick whether a modifier is restrictive or nonrestrictive and what is the strategy for such problems?

for questions that are extraordinarily general and broad in scope, though, and don't refer to any particular gmat problem - such as this one - you are probably better off searching the internet.

i typed "restrictive modifier" into google, and came up with several sources for reference. you should do likewise.
these sources, taken together, will give you a much greater understanding than we could attempt to undertake in a forum post.

also note that "restrictive" and "unrestrictive" modifiers can also be known as "essential" and "nonessential" modifiers, respectively. (this will help your searching capabilities.)
