Reading Comprehension Help

by srikanth.devidi Tue May 10, 2011 5:57 am

Hi,

I need some help on practicing RC passages.

During practice, I am able to really get a sense of the paragraph quickly and answer broad questions quickly using Ron's technique.
However, during the practice test, I had hard time realizing what was going on with the passage and finally ended up just reading the passage and answering it.
I was practicing before un-timed before trying on the timed test.
Is it something to do with more practice.

Also, with CR
Are notes really that important? I've heard lot of mixed reviews on this. or is it just during practice that you recommend note taking?
Same thing happened to me with CR. I reverted back to just reading the question and answering instead of jotting down.

Do you guys have any advice?

DO NOT EVER PRACTICE UNTIMED -- untimed practice is useless.
in fact, it's worse than useless, because it trains you to think that you have more time than you really do have.

you can take all the time you need when you review problems, but doing untimed problems is a big, big mistake.

my advice would be "don't take notes on CR's unless you get lost or confused".
