Question types (with blanks)

by concerned Thu Mar 01, 2007 3:43 pm

A friend took the GMAT last week, and saw a lot of verbal questions that ended in blanks. (Ex. "The company’s campaign will not be successful, because _______________.) What types of questions are these in terms of MGMAT question types? Find the Assumption?

Thanks for the help! - D

CR questions with blanks

Thanks for your question. Questions of that format, where Critical Reasoning questions leave a section of the argument blank and ask you to fill it in, are becoming more common on the GMAT.

In terms of types of question types, it purely depends upon the logical position of the "blank" in the argument. For example, it could be Find the Assumption ("The Argument will succeed, because _____________"), or Strengthen the Conclusion, or Weaken the Conclusion ("The argument will fail, because ___________") or Draw a Conclusion ("This is the case, and that is the case, so _____________."). Unfortunately, the format itself does not indicate what question type it is, and you will have to analyze each one on a case-by-case basis.

I hope that this is helpful.
