Question on Specific content on Verbal Foundation

by oreoandmilk2004 Sat Jul 09, 2011 4:37 am

Hi, English is not my native language but I hope to do well on the Verbal section of the GMAT so I start off with the GMAT verbal foundation. However, I noticed some grammatical issues that need clarification:

1. On page 66, #3 Each (of the spouses of the victims) have expressed their wish that a monument be constructed at the crash site. This is wrong because each is singular and (of...) is a prepositional phrase, so each...HAS, HIS/HER wish. On page 82 (top of the page): Each (of us) HAS saved...so, this is also correct...but then, I noticed on page 83, the sentence is: None (of the guests) have arrived. Shouldn't this be None (of the guests) HAS arrived?

I though each (followed by prep. phrase), none (followed by prep. phrase) need a SINGULAR verb---please clarify?

Thank you.

"Each" is singular; "each" implies "each one".

Here's a great link about "none" which illustrates that it does not have to be singular:
