Which of these two is correct?

Since he had not done his work, he failed.

Since he did not do his work, he failed.

What is the difference?

Please read (and follow!) forum guidelines when posting. This folder is for strategic queries only.

We no longer host a folder for general grammar questions; we couldn't answer everyone's questions because too many people had (great!) questions, so we had to stop answering these kinds of questions entirely. I'm sorry we can't help here.

If you have a question about something printed in the strategy guide, or if you have a question about an MGMAT or GMATPrep problem, that question can be posted in the relevant folder on the forums.

Otherwise, if you are one of our students, please ask during office hours or before or after class.
