Re: Quant scoring mechanism

by anish_sathe Sun Jun 07, 2009 6:48 pm

Hi,

I noticed similar situation in my case. In fact I reached to Quant score 51 with only 8 700-800 level questions, where as I got 23 600-700 and 5 500-600 level questions. It doesn't sound right. In my eariler CATs, for example, I got 44 - with 20 700-800 level questions, 13 600-700, 3 500-600 Level and 1 300-500.
I thought, as I should be getting better score I should see more 700-800 Level questions.
This was my last CAT - so is it possible that Questions bank ran out of 700-800 levle questions, since you put hold on questions?
I don't want to be under false impression that I am doing really good in Quant.
If you can't access my tests, let me know and I will be happy to send you my test results.

Thanks,
Anish Sathe

hi -

what's probably happening here is that you guys are actually running out of high-level quant problems to solve.

our exam pool is written to accommodate 6 distinct tests, for MOST students. however, there are not necessarily enough 700-800 questions in the current pool to last for those students who are scoring 48+ on every attempt.

in other words, the short version is that you're simply running out of 700-800 questions. because you're that good.

we are adding a large number of new 700-800 questions to the test pool, so this issue may become a non-issue soon enough. i believe that a large number of these questions are slated to go into the test pool in the next couple of months, so, if your official gmat isn't right away, you may get to see the new questions.
